Announcements and Action Activities:

  • Beyond Plastics is a global movement to end plastic pollution, especially single use plastic and 100Grannies is an affiliate. For much more info link here and for a recent article in The Guardian on the plastic crisis link here.

  • The Iowa Alliance for Responsible Agriculture (IARA) is helping lead the charge to limit the number and effects of factory farming in the state. Link here for how to advocate for a safer, healthier Iowa.

  • Did you know that 100Grannies is on Spotify?  Link here for podcasts, presentations, interviews, panel discussions and other audio content to keep us up to date with climate change and environmental crises in Iowa and beyond. The most recent is a conversation about glyphosate and the cancer gag act with Dr. Charles Benbrook, a renowned expert on agricultural systems and their impact on health and the environment.

  • Tuesday, February 24, 3:30 to 4:30 pm – 100Grannies next monthly meeting. Join us on the fourth Tuesday of the month (except Nov. and Dec.) from 3:30 to 4:30 in the downstairs of the Coralville Public Library.

  • Saturday, February 28, 9:30 to 11:30 am – Johnson County League of Women Voters Legislative Forum on the Environment. Coralville City Council Chambers.

  • Thursday, March 5, 5:00 pm. Miriam Kashia to speak in celebration of Women in History Month,  by invite of the AAUW Keokuk Branch. Keokuk Public Library Round Room.

  • Friday, March 6, 6:00 pm – Night of 1,000 Dinners at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church.

  • Saturday, March 7, 1:00 pm – Chris Jones and Sonja Eayrs Speaking Event on CAFOs and water pollution in Iowa. Iowa City Public Library.

  • Tuesday, April 28, 6:30 – 8:00 pm – League of Woman Voters Panel with David Cwiertny. Iowa City Public Library (Grannies are co-sponsoring)

100Grannies are engaged in numerous important activities to educate, advocate, and agitate for renewable energy, pure water, clean air and a healthy environment for future generations. Some of these are:

           

  • Partnering with the Iowa Carbon Pipeline Resistance Coalition and landowners to fight against eminent domain by private industry for a dangerous CO2 carbon pipeline across Iowa.  Link here to learn more. Link to this YouTube for more about the landowners’ perspective.
